Hair loss is a problem that haunts many people and is becoming a major problem. This is mainly due to the intake of impure food items and stresses related to the kinds of lifestyles many of us lead. However, hair transplant surgery has provided a good solution for this problem and with time, as people are gaining resources; the number of people opting for this procedure is increasing. It is always recommended that a person seeking this kind of treatment must research and find out what actually happens during the surgery and after it. Usually, people are reluctant to get this kind of treatment due to cost or due to the fear of what might happen to them later on. It is always pleasant news that the side effects of hair transplant surgery are very normal and minimal. The patient undergoing hair transplant surgery needs to be prepared for only a few side effects, which are temporary and will subside in a few days after surgery. There are two main types of hair transplant surgeries; Strip harvesting and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), in the former method, a strip of hair is removed from the area where hair growth is good. This strip of hair is then dissected into smaller units and these are then planted on the bald patch. The area from where the strip is removed, is stapled back together using surgical stainless steel staples. This wound may take a few days to heal and may leave a mark. The FUE hair transplant method involves extraction of individual hair follicles that are then planted on to the bald patch. In this method, there are very small incisions made and those do not leave behind a significant mark and heal quite easily. Other than this, the recipient might feel a bit of headache or redness in the area which is also temporary and might subside in a few days. Apart from the aching surgery wound, another side effect of hair transplant is the hair fall or shock loss. This kind of hair fall is due to the body being operated and is common in almost all medical procedures. The recipient may be alarmed to find that the hair you already had is actually getting thinner. This is a normal post-operative condition and the thickness comes back within a few months after surgery.
Another side effect is that the hair transplant may include some bleeding. Putting pressure on the area usually stops the bleeding. In very occasional cases, the bleeding does not stop so it might be necessary for the surgeon to do some extra stitching to close the wounds. Similarly, in rare cases, itching occurs on affected areas due to hair transplant surgery. However, it should not be prolonged for more than a few days. The use of shampoo to wash hair every day will help with the itching problem to completely finish. Almost everybody who undergoes hair transplant surgery has experienced swelling in the forehead and around the eyes. This lasts for only a few days while the fourth day is usually the worst in terms of appearance. Some individuals may get a black eye due to the swelling on the forehead.
